Omarosa Manigault Newman released another secret recording Thursday in which first daughter-in-law Lara Trump offered her a $180,000-a-year gig with the president’s campaign — as long as she remained “positive.”
In a conversation
played on MSNBC
, Lara Trump, who is married to the president’s son Eric, first referenced a New York Times article published after Manigault Newman’s December 2017 ouster from the White House that apparently included negative comments from Manigault Newman.

“Listen, obviously, with, the New York Times article and stuff, you know … they wrote about you. It sounds a little like, obviously, that there are some things you’ve got in the back pocket to pull out,” Lara Trump said before offering her the job.
“Clearly, if you come on board the campaign, like, we can’t have — we got to
everybody positive, right? So the only thing that we have to consider, where we’re talking salary … I know you were making 179 at the White House, and I think we can work something out where we keep you right along those lines,” Trump continued.
“Um, specifically, let me see, I haven’t even added up the numbers. But we were talking about, like, 15K a month. Um, let me see what that adds up to, times 12. Yes, that’s $180,000. Does that sound like a fair deal for you?”
She then goes on to say that Manigault Newman would have a flexible work schedule, attending meetings in New York and occasionally making speeches — but would also be allowed to work from home.
“In terms of your position, specifically, I really feel like your position would require, you know, you to be able to be flexible in terms of where you are. So it doesn’t really matter where you are. If you’re comfortable staying in DC then, you know, you’re, we’re more than happy to have you” remain there, she said.
Trump’s former highest-ranking African-American aide characterized the offer as hush money.
Lara Trump later issued a lengthy statement in which she called Manigault Newman “a trusted friend” who betrayed the Trump family.
“From the beginning of my father-in-law’s campaign, Omarosa was welcomed into our family as a trusted friend and confidant. We toured together, laughed together, and worked really hard towards a common goal. We never would have imagined that one of our own was secretly recording all of our private conversations,” she said.
She said she offered her a job because they still wanted her to be a player on Team Trump even after she got fired.
“Woman to woman, I shared a connection with Omarosa as a friend and a campaign sister, and I am absolutely shocked and saddened by her betrayal and violation on a deeply personal level,” she continued.
“I hope it’s all worth it for you, Omarosa, because some things you just can’t put a price on.”
Manigault Newman has been
appearing on TV almost daily
promoting her new White House tell-all, “Unhinged,” which paints an unflattering portrait of the president, who
called her a “lowlife,” “wacky” and a “dog” in response
.
