If technology is the future, this former engineer is making sure black girls don’t get trapped on the wrong side of the digital divide. She founded Black Girls Code in 2011 to expose girls of color ages 7 to 17 to STEM disciplines and give them opportunities to learn technology and coding skills at workshops and after-school programs. The organization has since trained more than 8,000 girls and now has 13 chapters across the U.S. and one in Africa. (Photo: Rayon Richards)
