CFDA - Community—it’s something the CFDA takes pride in. The sentiment was on show in full force on Wednesday evening, when we hosted a Los Angeles Members Cocktail at the private social club The Britely. West Coast designers came out to connect and celebrate, among them Adam and Ryan Goldston, Jeff Halmos and Lisa Mayock, Trina Turk, Jasmin Shokrian, Sophie Buhai, Luis Fernandez, and Victor Alfaro.
“New York has such a vibrant fashion scene and community and LA is much more laid-back,” said Autumn Adeigbo, who moved out west from New York mid-pandemic after 20 years in Gotham. “I am usually the most over-dressed person anywhere I go,” she added with a smile, “so it’s so nice to be around people who really appreciate the industry, and the craft and the joy of getting dressed.”
Shaun Kearney, who is goop’s Chief Design & Merchandising Officer, echoed the sentiment. “LA has changed a lot over the years,” he said. “Fashion has more of a presence; European designers showing here. It’s becoming more known as a fashion community than it used to be.”
CFDA CEO Steven Kolb introduced the short film created by Nian Fish to in honor of the CFDA’s 60th anniversary. The crowd, also including Ben Stubbington, John Whitledge, Lauren Harwell Godfrey, Brian Wolk and Claude Morais, Zaid Affas, Charles Harbison, Kenneth Nicholson, Rebecca Henry and Akua Shabaka, and Bishme Cromartie, intently watched the powerful, John Waters-narrated take on 60 years of American style – a journey that brought us all to this point.
“This is amazing,” Kevan Hall said. “I have lived in LA for a long time and I am excited to see us come together, have camaraderie, share ideas, and to meet new people.”
Community, indeed.
