CFDA - Jewelry designer Pamela Love has tapped the chef, activist, and writer Sophia Roe for her newest jewelry collaboration.
The two bonded over their shared love of the earth, its sacred ecosystems and beauty. With A Closer Look, the collaboration explores the crossroads of our bodies and nature, expressed through the mushrooms that make up the collection.
Magnifying loupes are also interwoven through the collection, from hoops with removable mushroom cap charms to waved rings and dangling earrings.
“As soon as Sophia and I met, it just felt right. It became very clear very early on that we had a lot of similarities in both our creative processes and interests,” Love said. “Starting out, I asked Sophia ‘What inspires you, what are you into?’ and she came back to me with the most amazing array of images showcasing the intricate view of mushrooms close up, things in various states of decay, crinkly plastic bags, and facts about fractals, fungi, and the cosmos that were truly astonishing. So much of her inspiration resonated with me. My team and I excitedly began ideating and sketching. From there, we went back and forth with Sophia on the designs until everything felt perfect to both of us.”
The exploration continues at home with a palm-sized table-top magnifying glass – a stunning decorative piece that combines form with function. Roe is the perfect collaborator for Love, who has long-admired Sophia for her tireless activism regarding food equity, sustainability, and racial justice.
The entire collection is crafted in recycled sterling silver, a nod to Sophia’s favorite material and the collaborators’ shared dedication to sustainability.
“We knew from the beginning that this would be a sterling silver collection as Sophia mainly wears silver and it’s one of her favorite materials. The entire process was deeply collaborative and meaningful to both of us,” Love added.
